Inspire a generation of college students to embrace God’s call to impact nations.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
— Jeremiah 29:11

Burning Tree is the college ministry at Thanksgiving Church. We exist to contend in prayer for revival on every college campus in Orange County and to be its living expression, to glorify Jesus in word and action, and to facilitate life-changing encounters between people and God. Furthermore, we disciple believers to be the shapers of nations, to see them emotionally mature and spiritually powerful to fulfill their God-given callings.

Moses encountered God at a burning tree. He was lost--a fallen prince of Egypt turned wandering shepherd--until God met him and called him to save a nation. Likewise, many today live half-empty lives, occasionally sensing but never quite grasping the fullness of life connected to God and His great plan. He is restoring the earth, and has called us each to find our place discipling nations!

He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.
— Titus 1:9

We are an Evangelical Christian community and a member of the Assemblies of God, holding to all commonly accepted Evangelical doctrine, including: the infallibility of Scripture, the Trinity, the death and resurrection of Jesus, the sinfulness of man, the necessity for repentance and faith in Christ for salvation, and the reality of eternal judgment.

In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity.

We embrace unity with all those who hold to the same core doctrines, and demonstrate their faith with a living trust in Jesus and refusal to practice sin. On minor issues of doctrine, we believe that the gifts of the Spirit are intended for today, that the modern prayer movement is beautiful and necessary, that Scripture should not be reinterpreted to conform to cultural popularity, that America will undergo a 3rd Great Awakening, that all Christians are intended to be effective ministers, that Jesus will come again soon to reign on the earth, and that God does not predestine individuals to eternal condemnation.

There is no substitute for experiential knowledge of God. At every gathering, we contend for real encounters with God, for ourselves, and for others. We seek His manifest presence and His living Word revealed to our hearts.

Intimacy with God is the heart’s chief desire, and putting that first ensures both fruitfulness and greater intimacy with others.

We seek to transform nations not only through wise words and excellent production, but by a demonstration of God’s power, so that people’s faith would not rest on mere words but on the power of God. This requires adventurous lifestyles of risks taken in faith.

We were all created to do good works that have been prepared beforehand for us to do. We desire that all members live with a sense of divine purpose in their studies, jobs, ministries, and relationships. This also requires a keen moral compass and the ability to rightly discern what is holy and unholy in our daily lives.
